Keesa

“So, what do you think, Keesa?” Raina asked as we stood in a shaded area at Lanie Park. There was a lake nearby, making the venue even more beautiful as the sun went down.

“I think it’s nice. The perfect place to have a wedding.”

Grinning from ear to ear, she said, “I know. Isn’t it gorgeous? I love it.”

“I don’t know, babe,” Cyrus stepped in. “I still think we should keep the wedding inside. So much more can be done with an inside venue.”

“And so much can be done with something held outside. I have the perfect wedding planner.”

“I understand that. But since I’m the one putting up most of the money for this, I think we should keep it inside. Besides, the lady that I’ve chosen to do the planning has some pretty great ideas for the place I showed her. I think you’ll love them.”

“The lady you chose?” my sister frowned. “When did you choose someone?”

“Oh, I’m sorry babe, I forgot to tell you that I met up with Sonya Price yesterday evening. I was trying to surprise you with it, but I didn’t want to say too much until I knew for sure she was going to be available. Turns out she is. She called me earlier today.”

I could see the fumes slowly making their way from my sister’s nostrils. “So, if you knew all of this, why did you agree for us to come here today?”

He kissed her forehead. “I knew how much it meant to you.”

“Seriously?” I blurted. “That’s your response?”

“Keesa, please,” Raina pleaded. But I couldn’t see beyond the hurt expression on her face, and the aggravation that was raging inside of me. His actions were an asshole move, and somebody needed to tell him.

“No, he’s wrong as hell for this. Why—”

“Let’s take a breather.” Jayce grabbed my hand and pulled me away.

“Oh, I’m going to need a lot more than a breather. Did you just hear that shit?” I questioned while still eyeing Cyrus and my sister who was just a few feet away. “See, that’s why I don’t like his ass. He literally went behind her back and changed everything. He treated her like a fucking child.”

“Yeah, that wasn’t cool.”

“I hope she tells him to kiss her ass. I know I would.”

“I already know,” Jayce replied with a chuckle.

“Whatever. I’m just saying, if you ever pulled some shit like that, you would be marrying your damn self.”

“Oh, so what you’re telling me is you want an outside wedding when we get married?”

I stopped, realizing how quickly this conversation had taken a turn. “I didn’t mean to say that.”

“It’s cool. I know we’re not that far in the game yet. But one day we will be.”

“Jayce, how did you go from pretending like you didn’t hear me pouring my heart out to you before I left town, to telling me what you would agree to at our wedding?”

He shrugged. “I had a lot of time to think and even more time to miss you.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.
